weber carb orientation

I was just browsing through some old threads looking for any other instances of the hesitation problem I'm having with Matthew's Driver, and I noticed this thread

http://www.vwgolfmk1.o…ms&file=viewtopic&t=16382

the piccies clearly show the 34ICH with the body rotated 90 degrees counter-clockwise to the orientation we have

one of us is wrong…… :dontknow:

any thoughts?

Don't suppose it actually makes any difference, does it?

Hello NigelO,

The pictures are of my car (sadly sold on 18 months ago   ).

The fitting orientation in the pictures is correct (I have a poor copy of the Weber fitting instructions) but from my documentation and my recollection of the car it can be fitted either way round. Just alters the routing of the cables/pipes - there may be a more technical reasion  :dontknow:

As for your hesitation;

Firstly do you have the correct Weber 34ICH - there are many variants each with different jets etc and there are versions for Golf 1.1, 1.3, 1.5 all different !

I have a Weber ICH Identification and Fitting Guide that I put together after all my own research - let me know if you want a copy. This will help make sure you have the correct carb/jets etc.

From the carb perspective it could also be due to a split/faulty accelerator pump diaphragm.

Outside that  check the ingnition timing and that the vacuum advance is working correctly.

Finally there is the points condition/dwell angle (gap). These engines are very sensitive to points condition and correct dwell angle setting - if wrong can give rise to hestation/stuttering under acceleration. You are much better off setting the dwell angle (with a meter) rather than the points gap as it is much more accurate and takes some account of wear in the rotor arm shaft/bearing.

Good Luck

Andy

Guys! You seem to be the corect people to ask, what size jets should I have in my 1.1 Weber 34 ICH?

Cheers in advance :)

This post was from 2008! so the users are unlikely to reply, might be worth making a new post in this section or possibly asking a company that specialises in carbs. Ive heard people phoning Boggs brothers for that sort of query
