Weber carb leaking after I've been out for a run in car. 1.3 GF engine.

Hi guys, got my Jetta timed up and took her for a run, runs great, slow as a "daffodil" after having a TT but still much more fun! Two issues I could do with a bit of guidance on if anyone can help?

1. Pretty dangerous I can imagine, fuel is dripping from the back of the carb, the drip can be seen in this pic, on the end of the gold backwards L shaped piece, near the end of the big spring… what an explanation. EDIT: It only seems to be leaking once I have taken the car for a run and turned it off…?

2. After a new rad, Head gasket, timing sorted, new thermostat, waterpump and coolant change, the Jetta is showing really hot on the gauge, heaters are on cold at the minute to be fair but still! Its "a Nats nut" from being at the end of the scale, the pipes seem really pressured too, thermostat is working fine though, and rad is warm all over. Mines a topfill rad, only thing I haven't changed is the temp sensor, worth a try? As always any help is greatly appreciated!

Update, changed the temp sensor, fan kicks in when it gets to 3/4 on the gauge and runs for about 20 seconds and shuts off again, seems ok, gauge still reads a bit high but I can't help thinking its the old clocks!

still leaking fuel from the carb, its hard to get it to start, the choke seems to do nothing (revs wise) and its quite lumpy when cold, once its up to temperature it runs great!

The leak only seems to , leak, when the car has been for a run and i park it up and turn it off, about 30 seconds after that it drips about once every two seconds… until it runs out of fuel in the carb i presume.

Anyone got any ideas?

I think there's a rubber washer that goes on that spindle when you build the carb up, youl will probably find that its fubared. Have a look at the nut and see if you can nip it up a little bit, but make sure its only a little bit as it you over tighten it next time you put for foot down,,the peddle will STAY down!!   Theirs usually a flat sided washer that folds over the nut to stop it from spinning loose too.
these Weber ICH carbs are pretty simple and you can get refurb kits for them. might be worth cleaning it up and replacing some parts if tightening that nut doesn't amount to much
Regards to the temp gauge, is it creeping high when you drive along or sat in traffic or slow moving? Gonna say if im nipping around town my temp gauge goes 3 quarter of the way up the scale, but no further, then soon comes down when im on the move.

Thanks for the reply Chris, as ever your a star!

Temp gauge just sits on 3/4 all the time to be honest, fan comes on when its still, but its only on for a short while and its definitely doing its job. I've literally changed everything that I can think of, and upon inspection the cooling system seems absolutely fine, at the minute the only thing that suggests its overheating is a 30 year old needle lol.

Regarding the choke, I tried that nut, noticed the metal that folds over to stop it loosening.  It tightened up a bit (3/4 turn maybe) Pedal seems fine to be fair, but its still leaking just as bad.

Looks like I'm going to have to go down the replacement seals route then, pretty nervous about messing with the carb, but I'm guessing I'd pay a fair bit to get a garage to set it up. I just can't get my head round why it only leaks when I turn it off after a run.

No worries matey.
If you think about it when the engines running, fuel gets drawn through the venturi and sucked straight into the inlet manifold, but when you switch the motor off, some fuel remains in the manifold and in the bottom of the carb, you may find that it only leaks when the throttle shaft is sat in its parked position not in its running position. This may be some help to you, dont worry that its Land Rover based, its still the same carb, just jetted differently http://www.aloharovers.com/tech/ichoverhaul.htm

Just to follow up incase I can help anyone else.

Carb was sorted by adding a pipe on a T-piece just before the fuel pipe goes into the carb. The pipe comes off the fuel pipe and back down to before the in-line filter (if you have one) on a t-piece at both ends. As it has a one way valve, fuel travels up the fuel pipe are normal, but when I turn the car off the excess pressure that would usually over power the needle in the carb is routed back down towards the tank.

a guy called Ian did it for me.
