Mk1 CTI 1.8 changed to Carb - Help on performance increase
I owned a Mk1 CTI (with performance cam and Power Pipes exhaust) and recently just changed from the K-jet system to Carb due to issues with the K-jet system i.e. fuel not pumping.
The Carb runs fine but seems to lack the performance that I had with the k-jet system
I'd like to thoughts on how I can improve the performance on the car
Thank you

Standard pierburg or webber will be down on power over the k-jet as fuel is no longer being injected into the engine,.
Carb feed cars standard 90bhp.
Injection cars standard 112bhp.
This is also in the wrong section… small block carb cars are 1.1 and 1.3 engines.
Mods will hopefully move so you may get more replays to your problem. :-)

Thank you for your response
I'm not sure about the carb type but I'd think it's a Standard pierburg that it came from a Citi golf 1.3
My apologies for posting on the wrong section

K- jet will give you more power and better fuel economy than a carb.
If you still want to stay with carbs you will be better off using bike carbs but they take some setting up and will burn more petrol.
Ive not touched bike carbs but there is plenty of info out there about bike carbs on a Mk1.

Given what you've said about the k-jet giving me more power and better fuel economy than a carb, one mechanic advised to have it converted to Mp9 system (the Citi Golf Velocity fuel system with the same block)
What is your thought of that?

Had a play with the digifant injection system in a couple of Mk2 Golf GTi I used own a few years ago but any thing built after 1988 is a mystery to me with all this electrical sensors, computer brains, cats in exhausts etc…

I guess I will try and have the K-jet system repairs by Bosch and see how it goes, or go for the bike carbs as you mentioned earlier and see how it goes
Many thanks for your wonderful insight
