Rusty/dirty Engine bay

Im just about to embark on my mk1 journey and one of the things on my list of to do's is to give the engine bay a complete hall over. By that i mean give it a good tidy up as currently its dirty and messy. I was hoping someone could point me in the direction of a good tutorial or a nice thread on cleaning a mk1 engine bay. Ive looked around the sites "stickies" but can see to find any good guides.

In an ideal world id love to take everything out of the engine and put it back together. i dont mean to an engine rebuild (not just yet) but to achieve a really good clean and organisation, i think it would help to take some of the bits out. Is this even necessary or should i be able to work around the engine and all the bits inside.

As well as the dirt and general untidyness. There is alot of surface rust on the components. The radiator is particularly bad. I was hoping there would be a nice tutorial/guide on restoring these parts of the engine.

Any advice or pointers would be great.

If you're able to drive it or trailer it, the best option would be to take it somewhere that has a hot jetwash. Many bodyshops have them, best to just go and ask.

The heat from these jetwashes shift ANY dirt, and no need for any special cleaning agents 8)
