Help my Search!

Hi Guys, really struggling to find this version of the 1.6 head anywhere! Found other heads but they all seem to have different little bits on. Anybody know if that makes a massive difference or can i buy it and just change parts, the photos attached are mine. If anybody has one going I'll gladly pay you for it! Thanks guys!

Well that has thrown me a curve ball.
As I'm on the move maybe I misread your post.

Ok now that has thrown me another curve ball.

As you "believe it has all been sorted" can you please unlighten me as to how it's been fixed?

On the side of the head is a part number, if you clean it of grease, and then place the part number in a google search you may get quite a few hits.

Golf Cabrio, this is the wrong section…. The 1.6 is a big block carb engine, not a small block….   Don't worry to much about the numbers on the head, you need an early 1.6 carb solid tappet head, I guess upto 1983 ish as they changed to hydraulic tappets after that.

Solid tappets have 5 caps, Hydraulic heads have 4 caps.


You might be able to fit a hydraulic head to a not hydraulic engine but not 100% sure, you would find lots of those and if you change/get the top water hose outlet you could fit the 1.8 head…..

1.6 water outlet between cyinders 1 and 2, 1.8 water outlet between 3 and 4.

You might find it easier to take the head to an engine builders and see if they can repair/fix it?
