I'm looking at changing over to electronic ignition asap, as the points and condenser on my mk1 1.1 c are doing my

I have spotted this item….
Pertronix 1847V Electronic Ignition unit for vacuum advance distributor
For most late 60's / early 70's cars.
Check the PDF file on the Pertronix websites for fitments.

When looking up on the fitment pdf it only lists the rabbit 1980 with a bosch dizzy…… does anybody know if this would fit onto my 1.1 c with a bosch dizzy….

Not sure if a kit for a US Rabbit would work on your 1.1, because all rabbits had the big-block engine (crank-driven distrbutor), and your 1.1 has a cam driven dizzy, which rotates the other way.
I used the Lumenition kit on my 1.3 and it was the best ?120 I ever spent on the car 8)
By the way, you can't assume that all VAG dizzy's are made by Bosch - my (1982, C-chassis) 1.3 was fitted with a VAG-stamped, french-made Ducellier dizzy, which incidentally are reknowned for leaking oil badly enough to make the clutch begin slipping 8O - I quickly changed it for a Bosch one from the breaker's before I fitted the Lumenition kit.

This all sounds far to similar….. :x
those ducellier were are big bag of poo…..
I changed mine to a bosch so much better … just want to lose the nasty points now……

The pertronix kit you want is the 1843, it was so easy to fit and works so well

If you ever go to the newer engine you can use the late Mk2 style dizzy with the hall sender in (thats what I've got on mine) with VW's own coil and amplifier. Sadly these distributer boddies don't fit the earlier Solid Lifter engine.
Really what you want is a totaly electronic system such as the Megaspark/Megajolt DIY-ECU kit which uses standard parts and lets you write your own 3D ignition maps via a laptop. These kits acutally cost less that you would expact to pay for a breakerless "traditional" kit…

The late MK2 dizzy sounds interesting. Do you know what year this is fitted from, and is it easy to spot which type is fitted?
I've a 1.3 HK engine, bosch distributor with standard points, running the original MK1 coil (push in, not screw on leads).
Sounds like these parts would be easy to get down the breakers. Would I need to grab: dizzy, coil, amplifier (where's this and what does it look like?
anything else?
Sorry to ask you so many questions, but hopefully useful info for a few of us!

I had a Ducillier one on my first Mk1 and the vacuumm advance was knackered. My dad (who's had three Mk1's and done a full engine rebuild on an 1100) started looking for repair bit and in the end we decided to junk it in favour of the Bosch one as it worked far better.
Having looked into the Pertonix ones they look pretty good - they don't use an optical sensor, instead they run a spinning magnet which looks like a far more reliable method. The Pertronix version II has RPM sensative dewll correction too and they have a high output coil system that goes along with it.

This kit will let you map your own ignition advance curves from your laptop, doesn't cost the earth and doesn't rely on any distributer at all…
