I can only think the issue isnt ignition related but the problem did seem to be significantly improved when the rotor arm and cap were changed

For you it's low-cost solution possibly at this point.

But if your Carb is also bugg…. then replace that as well but plugs first and don't bother cleaning the old ones.

At least it's a start.

Also I am going to fit twin 40's fairly soon hopefully so getting a new carb and ensuring it runs well (ie replacing gaskets etc.) Doesn't seem worth while
I should have mentioned, it is a polo GT engine with polo electronic ignition so no more points for me

I have just (slightly impuslivly) bought a used carb off eBay as a temp replacement which will hopefully not have the same fuel leak and running issues mine seems to have! But it will be a while till I can swap it on over into my car which means I'm without a car while I'm back at home
