1.3 mk2 engine conversion help please!
Picked up a mk2 golf 1.3 engine which is the later mk2 engine i think.
Removed the mk1 engine, but managed to get myself confused!
Can someone please explain in simple terms what work i need to do for the conversion?
As the sensors etc are different
Any replys highly appreciated!
thanks

the oil sensors are easy, the temperature sender you want is the black one. black wire off the sender is earth, other is signal.
Theres one wire off the ignition amp that needs joining to the ignition switch feed to the coil. thats it really. you'll want a longer fuel hose to reach the pump, mk1 clutch, speedo and throttle cable works. You'll want the mk2 rad hoses too as they go straight on. The mk2 has and expansion tank, you can either use the mk2 rad and tank or block the pipe off. if you block it off, leave it at full length and use it to bleed the cooling system else it wont bleed up. I got my dad to make a plug/bleed valve to make it easier.
Thats really about it. Oh and you'll want to swap the 1.1 twin port exhaust manifold onto the 1.3 as the late 1.3 has a different clamping system. The early twin port is a better design anyway.
are you using the mk2's gearbox as well? I did a 5 speed swap whilst i was at it lol.
