1.1C Help Needed!
My Golf has been off the road for a while for various reasons (60 mile commute, battery/coil problems), but of course now the sun is out I badly miss driving it.
Other day I decided to start it up, and it was fine. Did a few trips, before coming round a junction and it cutting out. Then when I restarted it, the engine would turnover but would not let me accelerate away. Admittedly it was low on fuel, so I assumed it would just be the old trick of rust coming through the fuel lines, but on closer inspection of the fuel filter - there was hardly any crud.
Anyway, I decided to change the in-line fuel filter, and while I was at it bought a new Pierburg fuel pump. Fitted everything last night and it turned over fine, idled O.k for 5 minutes, so I decided to take it out for a drive around the block. The engine was well up to temperature etc etc, but when I got up-to around 30-35 it would cut out again, but would restart for 15 secs and then cut out under load.
Then once I'd got it back home, it wouldn't turn over unless i had my foot on the accelerator or the choke open - the second I didnt do that it would cut out.
Does it sound like a fuel starvation thing to you guys?
What sort of things should I be checking?
Recently its had:
New Battery
New Ignition Coil
New Condenser
New Fuel Pump
New Spark Plugs
New Dizzy Cap
New Rotor Arm
^ I don't know if any of those may have caused a problem?
Any help would be much appreciated!
Cheers, Miles.
