London Concours 2019

I was lucky enough to be invited to take my Campaign GTI to The 2019 edition of London Concours at the HAC this week.

Over the past few months we have put in a huge effort preparing the car and making sure it was as good as it could be for the event. As always nothing ever goes quite to plan and a failed MFA LCD (itself a replacement) a month ago meant  right up to the 11th hour the car was partially in bits, well the dash was, and the clocks were out which meant the proper clean up and detailing was constantly delayed.

Anyway, the late nights and endless polishing and detailing the car were all worth it - the car won the class it featured in "Made in Germany" which featured some serious competitors and known cars on the Concours scene.  

It was a real accolade to receive the award and receive recognition for the model and the marque (it was the only Volkswagen at the show) but it was even better to hear the feedback from the visitors about their experiences of the Golf GTI and just what it means to so many people. 

Thanks to those I've leant on for help and support in getting this far, it's been a great experience.

Yes that's a 300SL

But the rest of the line up was equally formidable; a 1938 BMW 328, 80's Audi Quattro, Porsche 911 (930) Turbo etc etc 

So this was a massive victory for the mk1 and for Volkswagen. The reaction from the crowd when the result was read out was fantastic with plenty of cheers and whoops and the MC confirming "we knew this would be a popular choice" 

That is phenomenal! Congrats!
