Will 14inch ET45 fit?
I haven't had much experience of wheel changes.
Would an ET45 mean I need spacers or what?
I am sure the green standard mk1 (even as I write that I know I will get replies pointing out the non standard bits) mk1 at inters had standard steelies which were marked ET45.
I can never quite understand what it all means.
Should I part with the hard earned?
Peter.

ET45 offset are Vauxhall wheels. Even on the standard ET35 to ET38 VW wheels sit quite far into the arches. You can run ET28 or even ET20 like the ATS Cup wheels (as found on the Mk1 16-S).
Whilst ET45 do fit the handling may be impaired. You could fit 10mm spacers and longer wheel bolts to bring the offset back to ET35…

Vauxhall eh? great! I have been offered aftermarket alloys so I guess they were probably aimed at both VW and Vauxhall markets.
How do I know what spacers and bolts to get?
Also how do I check for buckling?

If the wheels have tyres fitted then all you can do is visually check for buckling and look at the amount of balance weights fitted. If they have loads of weights at one side they might have had a knock.
If the tyres are off then its easy - roll the wheel along a flat piece of ground and make sure it goes in a straight line and doesn't "wobble"

Cheers Steve.
Anyone know where to get 10 mm spacers? I guess they need a rim or something to hold the middle of the wheel aswell.

http://www.motoscope-online.co.uk/motorsport.htm list generic ones for - your PCD is 4x100 (ie. 4 hole, 100mm) which are on there (scroll down - quite alot!) Bean in mind you will have to multiply the cost by four though!

Ok, i'll come clean, these are the wheels, to be honest I am probably gonna leave em because of the spacer thing.
I am a bit concerned about the centre bore too. If that's not right then that gets even more complicated.
I know they are ugly but I kind of liked them and I have a feeling they are gonna go very cheap!

Also bear in mind that if you use spacers on rims, you may end up putting a greater lateral load on your wheel bearings, wearing them out prematurely :x
