Wheel question - width/tyre offset question
I'm looking at some 2nd hand wheels, they are 15 x 7 and 7.5j with a ET15 offset.
I'm looking to fit these to a standard (externally) mk1 gti but just wanted to know before buying whether the offsets etc are right.
Also would the slight difference in width between the front and back set be noticable?
1 last thing, what tyre size would be recommended for these? Current alloys have really good 195/45/r15 conti's fitted so would be nice to use those. Although it does have a 20v turbo fitted so any extra width/traction would be useful!
thanks in advance

Settling In

The width shouldn't cause any problems catching on the inside however they are going to stick out of the arches, so you might require some work there. Get them pulled and rolled. Tyres wise I would expect your current tyres to go on but will have a massive stretch. I'd do some reading on streched tyres.
To give you a heads up 38ET is the standard offset. the lower the number the more they will stick out, the higher the more they will sit back in the arch.
7" and 7.5" will look sweet if u can stop them scraping.

So I could machine the wheels to bring them further in? Not a problem for me to have done at all.
I guess I could get the arches rolled as well. It's not massively low so that will help.
Tyrewise I don't mind getting some new rubber. I was just curious what profile and width I should be looking at
Thanks

if theres enough meat to do it try to get around 10mm taken off, et25 would fit nicely

I would of thought that most wheels would be the same casting, just machined to different offsets? Certainly would be the best option. I guess I could take a little more off the wider wheels to give them the same look?

195/45/15 will be fine on those widths, a little stretched on the 7.5's but hey ho.
et15 Hmmmmm depends if you run low, I wouldn't rock such an offset myself.

depends on the design of the wheels basically, some might have a big dish and so not much meat on the spokes/centre to grind down
