thanks guys for all the info. i have learnt alot.

i dont want the s o l i d s t e e l m o u n t s as from what it seems that they would be very harsh as they are solid, more for a track car.
my car is a daily.

B o n r a t h mounts i hear is rubber, which sounds better. also does it really lower the car by a another 15mm? as i dont want it lower than it is.  would the Bonrath be all needed or is it a part with the mount seperate?

i was happy with the F e b i mounts and want that kind of ride.

my car is going to The Phirm in just over a week.  they will also be doing some research and let me know as well..

form what iv read on here and clubgtithe fedis will keep breaking, so id go with the bonrath, like you say the solids are that, trackday stuff BUT would be not as harsh with softer shocks.

rite well i am fed up now and im going to get some of these expernsive jobs LOL. has anyone used them before and can recommend which to get be it bonrath or the others and then adjustable or not. also i use my car every day so?? dont know if if its best to go with the bonrath - if this is the case - does anyone know of somewhere in england that supplied them - or knows how to translate the german page

also thanks for the link reg caster etc. but what does the 2.5 narror sping mean please?

i dont know what browser  your using but im on google chrome and it translates the page automatically, its great. 2.5, i  think its the diameter of the spring.

we both got the same problem.

I have had F e bi before and they were fine, lasted long time.. over a year until i hit my car wheel on a kerb which messed up my shocks and mounts, just because of that i had to replace but the Febi's are not acting like they did at first  :dontknow:

the s o l i d m o u n t s with no rubber, from hereshow they very harsh, should only be used for TRACK, not for a DAILY..

you answered your own question, bonrath!!! have you found a uk dealer?

i just called The Phrm, after the last post. and asked them wat they thought. they said the ones they mentioned to me before which are SKF.  He said they are the ones they use on their own cars, their personal cars. they know which kit im using. sounds like they know what they talking about so im just gonna let them do what they doing. he ordered the mounts and bump stops for me, and i should be there wednesday morning. after soo much i can just hope.. wanna move on with my car.. and need to..my only car and my daiy..

where can you get SKF ones from what are they ?!?!

and can i be rude and ask how much your paying for all this

You want Genuine VW top Mounts from the dealer - simple as!!

After 17 years of MK1 ownership I would not fit anything else. Same goes with wheel bearings. The aftermarket items last 6 months at the most.

The extra spend is worth it.

Are top mounts still available then? i paid £50 a side for these over 20 years ago if my memory is correct.

They should be. I last got some about 12 months ago.

Not cheap though. About £55 each.

alright mate. how did you get on with the top mounts, witch ones did you go for in the end? and how are they performing??

it cost me more as more needed to be done.
