Snowflake alloys...

Tyre choices??

Guys, I have acquired a set of vw snowflake alloys to fit on my clipper as I wanted to try and keep the wheels original(for the time being) they need a refurb but I was wondering if it is possible to fit a set of lower profile tyres than the balloons that fit them as standard. I am lowering the car by 30mm for now but plan on fitting coilovers in the future, just wanted a slightly different look than standard... What do you think??

Just a thought….
Fitting smaller tyres will mean your speedo will over read and you will be doing more miles, more revs in 5th on the motorway……

I did see some 15" snowflakes lookalikes on someones car..

Thanks guys,

Scott that looks exactly how I want mine to sit :) I think I'm prob comparing my current tyres on my steelies to how I was expecting the snowflakes to sit. What coilovers do you have in yours? Not sure whether to take the gamble on a cheaper option or save up for some midrange ones….

I got the cheap ones i imagine they will be unbearable  on long journeys, luckily i only drive 5 minutes to work.

If i were you i would hold out and get some more expensive ones.

I'm restoring a 1990 clipper and want that look, what coilovers are on your clipper and how does it ride? And is 185/60 R14 the correct size for 14" pirelli p slots? Thanks

i cant remember what coilovers were on there i think they were some randoms off ebay. the ride was very harsh and bumpy on the road.

i think 2 tire sizes are

175/70SR13 for steel wheels
185/60HR14 for alloy upgrade on clippers

Okay thanks for that, will any mk1 golf kit fit a late clipper? And I work for bmw so I'm used to rock hard rides, did it make the car handle well/hold the road better would you say?

The Scala alloys/snowflakes (VW name - Avus) only came in 14" from VW.
