SLOPPY GEARSTICK! please help?

hi,
i seem to have a problem with my 83 mk1 gti, basicly the gear stick is really loose and sloppy and i am unable to select the reverse gear, i can select all the other gears but not easily. can anyone tell me how to rectify this problem?

New gear linkage bush kit, not expensive approx ?15ish with new link rods, get them at GSF or ebay.

I haven't done mine yet but I've been told the best way to replace them is start at one end of linkage and do one at time..  do not take the whole thing apart at once.
