Reconditioned Gear boxes
The spigot bearing that holds the end of the starter motor is worn, enough that the starter motor has been moving and therefore damaged the ring gear on the fly wheel, the seal on the output shaft has gone covering the clutch in oil therefore there is likely to be a distinct lack of oil in the box!! not sure what condition the syncros and bearings are in, the clutch operating rod is quite worn and the clutch cable has worn about a 5mm grove in its housing on the box obviously not put back properly last time it was changed!!
The other thing i noticed was that if you turn the drive flanges coming out the diff housing they go the same way, and if you try and hold one the other one won't turn, do vw's have a funny diff or could it have a LSD fitted to it already????
How much and where is the best place to get a recondtionned complete box from??
The joy of buying someones incomplete project / rebuild!!!
thanx
