Rear wheel bolt problem
Swapped my wheels over today (pirellis to BBSs) and had a problem on the nearside rear. One of the bolts would not screw in.
Closer inspection revealed at the lip of the thread on the drum itself had corroded and crumpled, meaning the bolt wouldn't take up. Tried to cajole it, but no joy.
Current the car is back on it's wheels with only three bolts in place, obviously not ideal! Any tips for sorting those out, or am I going to have to take the drum off itself?
Cheers,
Drew.

you could try and re tap it but chances are youd have to go up a size if its that bad, which would mean findin a different size bolt 8O
think you may need to buy a new set (you should always change in pairs)

Only three bolts 8O Leave it and put a Citroen badge on it

Re tapping is not an option , you need a new brake drum and had better buy a new bearing while your at it , you can't use the old one's . In fact why not replace the pair , put new brakes in new bearings and brake cylinders etc etc and referb the lot ? Very satisfiying to do all the rear now instead of a bit now and a bit later .
Looks like the next trip is down to GSF or Euro Car parts . You should be able to replace the lot for under a ?100.
Cheers Chudd……

you could take of the drum and wind the bolt through from behind to clear the thread at the front. im sure there would still be plenty of thread to play with.

Thanks for the offer Bert! But it's fixed.
I tried the take the drum off and wind the bolt in from the other side, worked a treat. Only took about 1/2 hour. Nice one.
I've informed my Mk1 in no uncertain terms that it has had me scrabbling underneath it twice in one week and this is quite enough for 2006!
Guess what, now our 2000 Passat has decided to idle badly… they're all in cahoots these VWs!!!
Cheers,
Drew.
