Rear Tyres Rubbing Arches
At last I've got a GTi Cabriolet.
1990 Paprika red.
BUT offside rear tyre rubbed the arch when we were 4 up.
Not a lot of weight. Mrs Bondy and me in the front; total 20 st,
Daughter & Grandaughter in the back; total 14 st.
Ride height is 345mm front & 305 rear. Standard?
Shocks are Sachs Advantage 170 445. Standard? Fitted 10,000 mls ago.
Wheels are TSW 15" with 195/50/15 tyres. Non standard?
I haven't checked the offset yet.
Could it be a worn shock? or maybe the wrong spring? Any ideas how I check?
Cheers

or maybe the wrong spring
Spring determins the ride height not the shocker .
with 195/50/15 tyres
Try 45 profile tyres [ you can change just the rear for now]
Leave the =Daughter & Grandaughter at home problem cured . Joking a side i am running a smaller profile tyre as i need to carry passengers in the rear But like the non standard ride height .

Shouldn't be. Check the offsets…
How much of a rub are you getting?

Ok so a tyre width at road-contact maybe 195mm, but if you are running 8J rims then the tyre sidewall will be being forced wider as is approaches the rim?
8 inches = more than 200mm?
or am I talking nonsense?
Are 7J rims ok? I'm interested in all of this as I have some 7J BMW rims lying around with 4-stud PCD100

There is a circular mark with 36, Is the offset?
On the TSW site they look very much like Alvis R, but 15" Alvis were 6.5 :dontknow:
The tyre wall skims the inside of the arch, not a lot, but I need to sort it.
Any ideas folks?

a few suggestions I have is a cracked/broken spring which has let that corner drop
a knackerd shock which could do the same thing
a screw/bolt holding the arch liner/ arch trim on, in just the wrong place and is catching?
I'd get under and have a check around
