Paddle gear shift?

Has any one done it for a mk1. Am putting in a 1.8t in and just wondering.
Don't laugh.

Paddle shifts are normally found on semi auto or automatics - are you going to convert to 20vT and also auto box? If so, which one? Because you'd need to use some kind of electronically controlled auto. You'd need to either completely transfer the engine ECU and gearbox ECU into the Mk1, or find an aftermarket standalone ECU for the gearbox - I don't know of any but there might be something out there.

The actual adding the flappy paddles would be the easy bit!

Least it saves the bother with the hydraulic clutch

Was thinking of keeping the manual box and using actuators. Just have to figure a way of controlling the down shifts with a link into the ECU.
Was hoping that it had been done before but had a look and couldn't find one.

Where are you going to get the actuators from? And how are you going to do the logic from the paddle (which will be a simple on-off switch, all told) to the movements of the actuator? A specially constructed electronic circuit?

If you used actuators, will you hvae one doing the clutch too, or will you still need to press a clutch pedal to change gear? Or will your custom gearchange crunch the gears if you forget to press the pedal etc?

i think pauls above solution is about the best on this matter m8 seems like you wont to reinvent the the paddle shift and not in a very well thought out way
