mk2 GTI gearbox into a Mk1 GTI ?

Morning

Will a Mk2 golf gti gearbox fit to my mk1 GTI 1.8 DX ?

They look the same but what about the mfa and drive shalf flanges ?

The Mk2 box will fit without any issues. You need to change the flanges over from your Mk1 box. I don't know if you can change the mfa wiring block over to suit.

i have literally just done this. my speedo isnt working at the moment and i need to change the wiring for the reverse light but otherwise a good swap. very happy with it!

flanges only swap if its a later mk1 box with the green seal cups, if not you'll need to find a later box to steal the 90mm inner flanges from, or fit mk1 100mm driveshafts

if you dont get a box with the multi pin reverse switch your mpg gauge and shift light will no longer function unfortunatly, nothing you can do easily. you might be able to wire up some pressure switches under the gearstick boot i guess but a bit of a pain in the ass
