MK2 020 BOX IN MY MK1

does anyone know wot linkage i need to use. do i stick with the mk2 one on the box or change it all for a mk1 5 speed linkage, also do i need a new rack as mine is a 1.1 and doesnt have the mounting welded to it...

The 020 box is completely different to whatever the one is fitted to the 1.1 engine. When you say Mk2.....do you mean Mk2 Golf, or something else?

its from a mk2 golf….

the car is a 1.1 with the drivers engine mount moved…

ive got an early cabby that ive just taken the gearstick and rods off.

so do i use everything thats presently bolted to the cabby gearbox.????

and my 1.1 rack hasnt got the mounting plate on so will i need a new rack (say a gti or somthing)

its all mateing to a 1.8 8valve

Yeah you'll need the 5 speed linkage from a 5 speed mk1 (ie the cabby, since its a 5 speed right?), including a bracket on the steering rack. The Mk2 stuff, or the original 1.1 stuff, is no good.

thanks mate ....do i need to change the rack to as it dont have the bracket welded on the 1.1 one.or would you grind off the cabby one and weld it on the 1.1 one

You need to either change the rack or get a bracket welded on in the right place.
