Help for a newbie!
Is it likely to be the linkages or gearbox, cars in Jersey so I have to make it driveable over a long weekend! Any help appreciated.

2. could be either. to check it take the linkage arm off at the box end and try to put it in gear from the gear box. if it will find all gears it's the linkage out of line. undo the clamp bolt on the shift rod and realign. if not it's the box i'm afraid.

The mk1 golf 1.8 gti Christmas cabriolet is commonly reffered to as the coco chanel model due to the embossed " CC " logo on the roof, head lining, door cards, seats and sun visors.
This model is as rare as hens teeth and in very good condition can fetch up to 4k
in any condition a free "CC" model is a gem,
Good luck Getting it back

you maybe able to just realign the shift rod. i think the pinch bolt is either a 10 or 13mm. no point rebuilding all the linkages till you manage to get it home. you can drive it in 2nd and 4th with good clutch control.
