Here is a better resource I have found with the tranny codes.
Engines and Transmissions
It also shows which speedo gear you have or should have. It could be as simple as getting a different colored gear from what you have. I know that my cars are 5mph off at 45 miles per hour measured by radar (we have those "Do you know how fast you are going boxes all over the place")
so if I am doing 50, I am really going 45.
Don't forget that size difference in the tyres/wheels from factory (yep spelled it for y'all) can also effect your speedo.
Part of my issue is that I do have a little bit of a tread improvement on my car, which makes it off a wee bit, but then I have Auto's.
Years before they had GPS's in Phones and CAR's over here they have mile markers on the interstates. I would hold the car at 60 and over 2-3 miles time my car, as Rate times Time equal Distance divided by miles tracked…… I mean if it worked for me to Navigate a plane over the ocean, it would work on the ground as well. When I installed the First GPS units in Aircraft, it wasn't as fun Navigating…. No Loran A, B, C, no Dividers, it took all the fun and guestimation of Drift and wind out of it………

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?
They all start with GOOD Grounds.
Where are my DIY Links?

I dont know what box i have so no idea what ratio i have
I was hoping somebody would know from the rpm to speedo ratio, and then if i can change the speedo drive- if possible.
The gps speed will only change with wheel diameter

6W gearboxes came out of a BL Montego, I had a ACD gearbox in my 1988 Gti cabriolet but have now switched to a 6W gearbox, the 6W has a slightly higher 4th and 5th gear.
4th gear is the same as 5th on the ACD gearbox
5th gear is slightly higher being 500rpm lower so at 60 mph the ACD is at 3000 rpm and the 6W is 2500 rpm.
What revering light switch do you have the bigger type with lots of pins or the 2 pin switch?
My 6W came with the larger type revering switch and 90mm drive shaft flanges which I had to change for 100mm drive shafted fitted to a 1988 car.
I did have to change the speedo drive on the gearbox from the original one fitted as like you the speedo was way out, I think I went from a white speedo drive (original to the car) to a red one but I'm not 100%
My speedo is still over reading by 5mph and I'm running on standard 185/60/14 tyres so when my speedo says 60mph my sat nav is reading 55mph but I can live with that.

Might be worth you removing the speedo drive and checking what colour and how many teeth your current drive has.
Remove the cable and drive CAREFULLY as they can fall off the speedo cable and drop into the gearbox. There is a small C clip holding the drive on th cable so watch out for that when pulling the old drive off the cable.
there is a red, white and green speedo drive.

Montego? What the fk
2 pin reverse switch which i replaced recently
I did have a look at speedo drive but as you say on removing cable the red drive stayed in box so i refitted cable & tested speedo still worked.

British Leyland used VW gearboxes for a few years then they started to produce there own gearboxes.
In my Mk1 Scirocco I've a gearbox out of a MG Montego as when I changed from a 4 speed gearbox to a 5 speed it was easier to find a Montego in the scrap yard and the gearbox was cheaper the a Golf one but this was about 20 years ago…
I must of change my speedo drive to a white one if you have a red one fitted. I’ve got my old drive in my garage so I can check this week which colour drive was wrong for the 6W gearbox.
Interesting you having the smaller 2 pin revering light switch as I’ve the bigger type like this….

Bit of research found ratios to be
3:45
1:94
1:29
0:91
0:71
Final drive 3:94
And using online calculator = exactly what i tested at.
Just need a calculation to work out speedo
