Hi there I am new to the forum having just bought a mk1!
Need advice on a few bits if you can all help me.
Does any one know if its an easy job to fit g60 280mm on my car. looking at buying callipers, brackets disks. Is it not worth the stress. looking at putting them front and back.
please help.
Cheers Gilly

Before you go ahead check out the vauxhall conversion, i had always wanted to do the g60 conversion, i thought not putting vauxhall brakes on my golf. so i bought the calipers and the brackets but wasnt really happy with them, am now looking at the vauxhall conversion and the best thing is (i hope) that the caliper holes line up with the golf hub holes, no adapter required. I havent tried putting everything together yet though.

Arn't the Vauxhall ones 256mm ?
The 280's are easy to do, just use standard VW calipers, carriers, disks and pads. You will need to get these donated from a four stud with 280's fitted. You will need some Adaptors to bolt the carriers to the mk1 hubs.
For the rear you can use standard mk2 or mk3 Golf setups. A small amount of grinding is required to allow the stub axle to fit flush. Some 16V Scirocco cables. Some use mk4 callipers, but they require special banjo fittings and handbrake cables, £££s from C&R.

I have some vauxhall calipers that fit 288mm discs, close enough to the g60 280mm disc that it will fit ok i hope.

Thanks Guys for the replies,
I am looking at getting all the bits needed from the golf g60 front and back.
Sounds like I just need the adaptors, cables and a bit of grinding!
Is it worth the ball ache?
Cheers

Disks all round is great, the rears will not make much difference to the braking , but the pedal feel is so much better - the drum auto adjusters are crap which just allows the pedal to get longer and longer…
You need to fit a 16V Mk2 Servo and 22mm master cylinder at the same time

288 might be 5 stud, thats irrelevant for what i want to do, the vauxhall calipers are for 288 when on a vauxhall, i am hoping when fitted to the golf hubs they will line up with the 280mm discs, they might not , i may need 300mm discs or what ever but am hoping they fit the g60,s

Will there be much difference between the mk2 16v 236mm (give or take a couple of mm) disks and the 280mm? I will be using the master cylinder etc.
is it worth the extra work?
If I went smaller will I always regret it?

Forgot to ask will 280 g60 at the front then 16v disks at the rear make set up easier?
As it appears the rear disks at 280mm are the problem.

You dont want 280 mm discs on the rear, just normal mk2 golf items what ever their size
