Four gears - why?
My wife has just taken our 1983 GTi to the MOT station and reports that she couldn't find 5th gear.
Other than a knackered gearbox, is there anything else it could possibly be?

Just reminds me when i took my golf in for an MOT. There was no markings on the knob and the MOT inspector tried all gears and the fith was a bugger to get in. Heavy handed it in to fith and knocked all the linkages off. lol
UP it went on the ramps again…lol
Still passed the mot tho!. I soon replaced the badly worn links and adjusted it. Lots better now. I know when centering the gear stick was a bugger to do on your own, had a cunning plan with string to hold it in place whist under the car doing up the clamps.
