fitting speedo cable
hi everyone, i am just about to fit a speedo cable to my cabby, i have a new drive gear aswell, the is a little pilot hole in this drive gear that seems to locate to a groove on the speedo cable, shouldthere be some kind of pin etc here that attatches the drive gear to the cable? or do i just drop the gear in the box and locate the cable to it?

there should be a small circlip which holds the drive on,do not put the drive in to the gearbox without the cable ,my drive came off and it took 2 days to get it out !!!! see "speedo drive lost in gearbox !!! "http://www.vwgolfmk1.org.uk/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=63647
i glued the very end of the cable in to the drive

is there any special way to fitting it? to make sure the gear picks up in the correct place?

also droped drive gear into gearbox
. Had to take the box off and shake the drive cable out. Beware!

No, if you're fitting it correctly then a slight bit of downward pressure should see it locate properly. There's no specific alignment. If it won't fit properly, rock the car back or forward a tad.
