diesel gearbox

what effect would a mk3 diesel gearbox have on my 1.6 GTI?

I reckon it would make it very slow and your clutch would wear out with all the slipping required to pull away,, would be massively overgeared

I've heard the gearing is much shorter, with only the 5th gear being long…

if its a chd gearbox it will have 100mm flanges

how do I identify that? I do have some 90mm shafts I could offer up to check though

If so I could just swap the flanges over from my 4+E box I suppose

diesel box will be pants, all the gears way too long. if you want an uber cruisy 5th you can swap a diesel or 4+e 5th into your 1.6 box easily enough:

I'm hoping I won't have to change the gearbox, its the one that come with my 1600 engine and I hope its the original one, but even in gear if I roll the car back or forward it isn't turning the engine, so I hope its just a clutch issue! Hoping to get the gearbox off one night this week so I can see if thats at fault.
