Can I just notch the chassis

I have lowered the car as far as I can without the drive tubes touching the chassis but can I just notch out a little so it won't touch?????

Along as you structurally support it after you've 'notched it out a bit'. Of you take steel out, this weakens the chassis so you need plate it back up and weld afterwards. If your doing it do a full notch.

Good, last thing you want is weak chassis legs

The shape of the chassis at this point defines its strength properties, much more so than the actual thickness of the metal. If you notch, and merely create a flat or simple curved piece to cover the hole you've just created, it would be weaker. So you'd need to plate it over with something much thicker than first you might have imagined.
