they're supposed to be weld in yes, but that being said i did have a scirocco that had just had the cable threaded through and a bit of body bonder fitted to stop it sliding…

Not the prettiest fix but it did work surprisingly well.

hey i bought 1 of these off ebay

it has a sticky pad on one side and is easy to fit!

Works a treat!!!!

yup, but gluing it on doesn't solve the real problem which is corrosion causing the bulkhead to split. which no amount of sticky pads is going to prevent from getting worse…

worth doing properly me thinks.

99% of the time its not corrosion that casues the failure. On LHD drive cars the clutch cable as a short straight run from gearbox to pedal.

On RHD cars its a long twisted route that puts pressure on the un-reinforced bulkhead that eventually fractures the metal.

When the cable is setup up right it holds the reapir plate in place so it only needs the sticky pad to aid fitting. In the past I've used a couple of self tappers as a belt and braces approach.

The trouble with doing nothing is that you never know when you are finished.

ah yeah thats true

not a pretty fix though is it? I'd prefer to seem weld it  if possible.

Suppose it depends on the owner in that case!!!

My old rocco pulled the cable and the repair plate through the bulkhead  8O

Ended up CNC machining a hench slab of ally with all the necessary holes in it and just lobbing it over everything. Did the job :
