brake servo upgrade

i'm upgrading my brakes, and at the moment looking for a mk2 16v brake servo, which seems very hard to source. but i've heard that a mk3 vr6 servo can be used. the only trouble is that  servo to pedal fitting is ball type fit,so would need modifing to fit mk1 and mk2 Golf's(u would need to welded your own clevis pin from your servo to the mk3 rod . if this is not possible where on earth can you get hold of a mk2 servo. thanks to all that can help.

Any GTi MK2 servo will do , they are the same . The 16v master cylinder should be purchased new from GSF . You can buy them new from VW , but a scrap MK2 would be cheaper  .

Who told you the Mk3 VR6 servo can be used?

new mc is only ?35 or so from gsf, so not worth the hassle of second hand tbh, and on the servo iirc its ALL mk2s that have the 9" servo...so just find any in the scrappy / free adds on the mk2 owners club etc.

I got mine from a mid 90's Passat.

any 1.8 MK2 one will be 9", doesnt even have to be a GTI one. also 1.6 automatics and diesels will have the larger servo too.  As you say the MK3 servo has a ball fitting, so unless you can adapt it then it wont work.
