Brake Discs
Hi to all members
I would like some advice on replacement Discs and Pads. I have a (89) Golf Gti Cabrio. I like the look of Black Diamond discs or EBC Turbo Grove discs, which is best?
Any other good quality alternatives?
I think I will buy the EBC Greenstuff pads, are they worth the cost?
Regards Dave

depends what you want to do….
discs, you get what you pair for, cheap discs tend to be monkey metal and dont last as long and cause more brake dust (which is normally brake discs not pad.)
for discs I would either go OEM or see if you can get ATE power discs these can normally eb got from euro car parts and have grove in them but are classed as OEM discs so dont need mentioning on the insurance like drilled and normal grooved ones.
pads, - green stuff is fine so long as your not doing trackdays / real fast road driving, brillant pads.
if your doing ffaaassssttt stuff get yellow stuff.

put latest greenstuf pads on my daily drive and well happy with them.
Noticed no drop in cold performance, which is good.
But the main advantage is the dust these pads produce definatly doesnt seem as aggresive on the alloys as previous. Maybe slightly less dust but its that easy to remove.
If you find the part no for greenstuff pads for mk1 set of calipers, please post, would be interested for my next set of pads.

sorry should have also said paired the pads with EBC Ultimax Brake Discs. No problems so far, like them.
using brembo-max on mk1 again no problems but slightly noiser than above under heavy braking.
Black Diamond also have a solid reputation as a quality brand.
coupled with the ATE suggestion above
well the world is you choice, just depends on how much you want to or dont want to spend.

green stuff cold peformance is pretty good and constant over speed, (they have to be by law to be reg 90 approved, but pads for a mk1 dont have to be as they are too old, but normally are as they are made from material thats used in other emarked pads)
its not as harsh on discs due to low metal content in the pad, and any metals are soft once like copper.
but like I say it doesnt like heat, I have managed to over heat it and fade it on the rear on my track car while having some spirited driving across the cat and fiddle pass, but thats very harsh on brakes being short sprints then hard braking, then more short straights.
