4+5 speeds linkages??

is the gear linkage setup the same on the big engined 4 and 5 speed boxs?…im doing a 1.8 16v conversion in my 1.1c shell using a 1.8 8v box and im having trouble getting  the gear leaver to sit correctly in the cradle thingy….because i got alot of my the parts for the conversion from different cars/places i wana make sure iv got the right bits..

so basicly need to know if the cradle+ all linkage including stick upto the point where it connects to the box via the large ball joint is the same in in 4 and 5 speed gti boxs

They are different. I don't know how different, but I know the steering rack on a 5 speed car has a bracket to hold the mechanism that a 4 speed car's rack doesn't.

iv got the correct rack on for the 5speed..my problem is that the the gearstick doesnt seem to sit properly

Two of the gear selector rods are different, I think the P-shaped one and the cross rod.
