020 Gearbox stripdown help needed!
With my trusty Haynes manual in front of me i set about stripping the gearbox of my nut and bolt resto to refresh all the bearings etc…
Got to step 16 which deals with removing the 5th gear retaining bolt. Mr Haynes states that i must engage both 5th and reverse gears to lock the gearbox. Naturally Mr haynes doesnt actually tell you how to do this..! :dontknow:
So, all you clever chaps out there - any ideas how, as the selector shaft is out, as are the drive flanges (the bit i was dreading!).
I have stripped an 020 before to do a synchro ring, but i'm buggered if i know how to lock it up to get this bolt out!
Heres hopin……

May i just add my thanks to those above - that guide was spot on.. the only bit it doesnt tackle is removal of the early type selector shaft retainer - a crimped piece of tube.. cue medium hammer and sharp chisel. tap tap tap… (its only 1/2 a mill thick) and hey presto it starts to come apart.
This can subsequently be replaced by 020 311 579B - still available..
