Its not a race! You're not allowed to race on a trackday!

Are trackdays a case of testing yours and the cars capabilities
Can you go as fast as you want, as long as your not endangering others on the track?

There is no speed limit but there is a basic set of rules to do with overtaking, eg:

overtake on the left only (clockwise circuit), ie on the outside
overtake by invite only. The car being overtaken signals
overtake on straights only
if you're being overtaken, back off to allow the other to pass easily
do not 'flash' a slower car ahead of you

With those rules, and a busy occupied track, its difficult to stay 'full on' the 100% achievable speed, because you're either slowing to allow a faster car to overtake you, or being held up by a slower car ahead of you. It would be impossible to 'race' another car since the overtaking is by invite and the overtaken car is backing off, so there is no ability to compare.

Not taxing the Mk1 until 1 March - just searching for insurance too

Dell, you should get a good quote from Footman James or Carol Nash

So the meet is set as Oulton Park on Saturday February 7th, hopefully catch some of you in the pits  :y:

Anyone else thinking of popping down, see you there or catch you at Dubfreeze

Footman James were very strange, wouldn't class my car as a classic, but after putting me on hold 4 times, she changed her mind in the end but quoted me an extra ?70 for doing so, whereas HIC gave me a much more competitive quote (only ?11.75 extra for agreed value) - seen somewhere they are the same company though - strange!

Try Gott and Wynne on Madoc Street in Llandudno ,I've had my camper with them for 3 years.
They're really good and always find the best quotes 01492 870991

trying to rearrange work so can pop along and say hi, my car is still not ready but will be in area so will try hardest to call in, done loads of trackdays at oulton so any advice i can give just ask, just a quick one fuel station is not always open on site but about 1 mile away petrol station with super or shell about 2 miles away,
if youve not done one before just think of it as driving fast on the road with no oncoming traffic just take your time and slowly build up your speed oulton is a tricky circuit and remember theres no prizes for "winning or stuffing it!" so just go at your own pace and learn how your car handles at speed see you there (hopefully)

Normally my car would be on the trailer in preparation, by now. But I've delayed the start of preparations due to the weather. I've just phoned up Focused Events. The event is still on, and not yet cancelled, but if needs be they will contact people tomorrow if it is cancelled.

Fingers crossed…

Is there any chance of passenger rides if i bring my helmet along?

Well, I live around 17 miles from the track and its been a lovely sunny day here, the roads are completely clear (and dry) and there is very little remaining snow to be seen. I have checked the weather and it might rain tomorrow. To influence this, I have prepped the car and its sitting on the trailer with the wet weather tyres on. According to Murphy's Law, this means that it should remain dry and 1st job tomorrow will be quick tyre change.

Because there was a lot of maybes, I didn't enquire about passenger rides with Focused Events. I know there's a fee of some kind, not sure what else you need to do, eg be there for the safety briefing etc.

I'll try and be there for somewhere round 9am

I don't have a garage, but there are garages there, and they have power sockets…

I will be there around 10:30, meeting up with a mate from work who is there in a mk2.

The last track day i did passenger rides were ok, you had to pay ?10 for a wrist band and have a helmet.

Im looking forward to seeing the mk1's on track and will hopefully come away with a bit more motivation to get mine finished…

Just checked the weather, it says a sunny day for saturday, if a little cold……bbbbbbbrrrr! better wrap up warm. Those who are racing wont have the same problem, with their heaters slowly cooking their toes  :P .

Sunny all day……they forgot to mention more overnight snow

Got up this morning and took a photo while going for a newspaper……

Safe to say, I'm not taking the Golf on the road today, I'll be going up to Oulton Park in the daily car instead. I've tried ringing Paul to check everything is alright, got no answer, so I'm assuming he's racing
