North West

This morning >>Sat 5/2/05 I saw a beige Mk1 C 'V' reg along Whitebirk Drive in Blackburn towards the M65. Looked pretty clean, if covered in snow a little. Any one on here want to own up to driving it??

when is this meet at Salmesbury? any other meets around the north west?

1st Sunday of every month at the Myerscough pub A59, Salmesbury opposite British Aerospace. Folk get there for bob on 2pm and the stay varies depending on the weather! There are the 'regulars' and others who come and go over the months. Trips to shows are organised as a 'North west Lancs. Region Club GTI' contingent. At Bodelwyddan, Wales last year we put on a club stand show which displayed the groups range. There were a selection of cars from standard a Mk1, a standard Mk1 Cabriolet, a G60, a modded Mk2 and an R32.
My show season will be a short one this year as we are expecting our first child at the end of May!!
All comers to the monthly meet are welcome.

Just moved to penwortham in preston, Had the car shipped down but its sat in the garage for the past few weeks while i work on the stereo system. So if neone knows how to wire up a radio in a mk1, i'd be more than greatfull if ya cud point us in the right direction  :dontknow:

i'd be well up for this meet at the bae systems, need to get it bak on the road!!!!!!!

        Nice to see another new-comer to the North West, Or more specifically Preston!! Keep youe eyes out for a Mars Red cabby, (standard) with a cream hood. i don't go through Penwortham that much (I live in Walton-le-Dale) so I tend to be 'on the other side'. From the looks of it you frequent the Docks, last time I visited THAT carpark it cost me a fortune and I am still paying!!

What do you need to know about radios? I did mine at the start of last year, re-wired the rears etc. PM me if you wish.

BAE has a good mix. I get there when I am off and when my shifts are quiet and I can slip out!!

See you there 1/5/05 if I can get out.

I've been down to the docs a few times but only to the local halfords for bits. Picture was taking about a year ago on the infamous 'maccy d's' at elk mill in oldham. Yea i've heard of walton-le-dale, is that past bamber bridge? all the way up that road?

Seen a few dubs out and about seen a std mars red GTI which looked as if it had been lowerd and a white cabby that i see literaly everywhere!

I'm not quite as far north as Preston but I'm in cheshire in the NW (obviously   )

We defo need more meets up this way, Caddys not on the road at the moment but hopefully it'll be back up and running for next month even though its going to be a multi coloured Rat caddy till I finnish building my garage so I can get it painted

Yeah, meets are good. The BAE one is a Club GTI run affair but I don't think that they mind all comers.

On the otherhand….and its a bit radical a NWMK1 meet could always be arranged. (Baby permitting for me!!) Maybe at a relatively quite location, away from residents but close enough to major road links. I can see why the Club GTI team meet opp BAE, its a good location and only 10 mins max from my house!! 8) .

What does everyone else think?

so its not just me that thinks that white cabby follows them, i see it everytime im in preston!!!
any one got any spare decent alloy wheels going for a cheap price… everything on e-bay is SO far away.

I mite have some soon. Ive got some pirrelli p alloys that need refurbishing first though. If yr at the next meeting u'll b able to see em on mi car but I'm not one to rush.

Northwest meet's would be a great idea! Would be great to get a group all together! Driving in convoy to larger event's has already been mentioned! How are we going to organise it? Where would a central location for everyone be? Where is slap bang in the middle of the nw? Pub car park on a sunny sunday evening, you know! Any thought's? Club gti meet every third sunday at 6pm at the Cheadle royal pub near John Lewis's cheadle! Just if any of you are interested! I went last month, some lovely cars and a good set of lads and lasses! My tip would be to keep this group seperate from Club GTI. That way after the AGM and all that business is sorted out, we will hopefully have a totally independantly formed club instead of a subsidurary of Club GTI. (by the way I have nothing against that club as I am a member and go to their meets!!).
I don't know how the pub at the top of Parbold Hill would greet us and there are some great views for pictures. It does get quite busy at weekends however.
Any other ideas??

Absolutely, keep it seperate to club gti, that suggestion was really just to get the gist! Where is the location you mentioned? Would that be central for everyone? Where is central? I live in stockport, a few from warrington way and some from bolton, preston way! We could start and then change to best suit everyone! Cheers...Walt!

It looks like Preston and Warrington are the most popular. Looking at the map (very technical, no GPS with Dano) it seems like Wigan and surrounding areas are pretty central for most. Sorry Edward and Kins but unless we had it at Forton Services, everywhere would be a treck for you two!! AsI said The Wiggin Tree, Parbold Hill is a good venue for access. Off at junction 27 M6 and keep on the main road till you get to the top. Weekends are packed because of the views, walks etc but I don't know about weekday evenings. The pub is a Brewers Fayre.
Any other suggestions?

I'd be up for a local meet. The Swan pub at Winwick is just off J22 of the M6 and J9 of the M62 for people coming in all directions. Given it's 2mins from my house, I may be a bit biased in suggesting that though …….
Seriously, anywhere local fine by me if someone organises it (not my strong point !)

Wiggin Tree sounds good (would say thay - only 10 mins from me) but it is pretty central and is only 10 mins from J27 M6 so good for access (J27 has access to M6 both north and south so no problems there).

They should be ok about meets - I know there is (or used to be) a group of scoobies and eveos that meet there regularly.

And car park is big !

If I have time over the weekend I will try and pop up and see the manager. Does anyone have a preference to a day/ evening meet? As I said earlier, days at the weekend will get busy during summer.
