Mk1 Scirocco 76' TS and a 1972 Mercedes Benz class

Hey everyone as my mk1 is finally put away for a while :( (Sob) Ithought it would be good to tackle something different. I have been very fortunate in the last 6 months as i have found a 1976 mk1 scirocco 1.5 TS which is a fairly (dare i say it… rare car) I will now clean my mouth out with soap! Its in a light metalic blue and in very good condition for a 39 year old car with minimal rust, and only done 86,000 from new. I haven't got any photos yet but i'm going next weekend so i will take some then.
My plan with it is to fully service it new cam belt check all brakes etc then get it on the road and use it for a bit. The car has been off the road for 26 years! and fired up the other day with only fresh fuel!

The second beast'y is a 1972 Mercedes Benz S-class 350 SE V8 (electronic injection/ignition) also in light metalic blue! (Ok so i have a thing for blue…) Lovely story with this I found out about this car through a customer at work, for those who don't know I'm a mechanic for a living. So one day this spritly gentlemen rolled up in his new toy a Volkswagen Phaeton 5.0 V 10!! Booked his car in for a service and MOT (and that day I had gone to work in the MK1) He asked for a lift so I took him back to his house and he pointed at my car and we had a big long talk about it on the journey. A few months pass and he'd been in a few more times for different things and at this point he told me about the Mercedes he could see how I had a passion for older cars and he said I could have the car for FREE I was taken a back by this so I said I could not give him nothing so we agreed on £5 ha ha. SO that's how I now own a Benz, He owned the car from 79 ran it till 89' and it was starting to show signs of age so he took it off the road for a restoration. Every thing he bought for the car was direct from Mercedes Benz! He has replaced both full rear 1/4 panels all 4 doors new tailgate new wings bonnet and front panel new front inner wings. He has all the parts to go back together including new door seals bumpers all the chrome work clips etc still all in original packaging. He also re built the engine with new timing chains guides tensioners re did all the heads re built the 3 speed auto box all the brakes new caliper's discs pads brake lines incl brake flexi hoses. Unfortunately the chap contracted Emphysema so couldn't carry on with the restoration so its been sat in a heated garage since 91' I Cleaned out all the fuel lines etc new fuel filter and turned the key for it to jump in to life pretty much instantly and run spot on. As my mk1 is now off the road I'm planning on getting the Mercedes done for the agm and cruise down in that with the rest of the family.
I will try get some photos of the Mercedes this weekend and the rocco next weekend.

A Benz for a fiver? You lucky man! The Scirocco sounds like a good project, my old man had a 1.5 TS mk1 back in the early 80s.

Looking forward to updates and pictures!

Friend of mine had a 76 rocco 1500 TS orangish colour, back in 84 /85 we were 19 / 20 at the time and his first car after passing his test, and even tho it was only 8 yrs old the inner front wings were quite badly rot.....in the end I think it got scrapped after about 4 yrs due to rust, great car tho..

Scirocco looks amazingly rust free for an early one. I'm presuming its been restored atleast once before?

It's very good there is a little on inner wing, but yes it has had sills before and rear arches but thats it axle points are good as is rear valance. Worst bit are the doors they are knackered at bottom but look ok.

Liking the Scirocco, it does look clean.
You will have to come over to the dark side and post it up on the Scirocco register as well, good place if you need parts etc.
