MK5 GTI

Just bought a MK5 golf graphite blue GTI as my new daily

Feels very fat compared to the MK1 but super smooth with the best brakes ive had on any car

Pick up Wednesday

Funny, I've always found the brakes to be the least inspiring part of most VAG vehicles I've owned.
I'm running a mk5 as a daily too, GT TDI. I've not had it long, but I like it. It's nice and roomy and feels like a solid well built car (the reason I like VWs).
 

I have to be very careful when I go from the Mk1 to the Mk6 that I don't put myself through the windscreen when I touch the brakes for the first mile or so!

I have been driving an Audi A1 1.4 TFSi for the last couple of months and thought that had good brakes but the MK5 is mega on brakes

The Audi engine would be great in the MK1, only 125bhp but very driveable, a basic remap and its 150 and lightweight

Cam belt and water pump in the MK5 on Thursday and all good to go

Looks really good, the Mk5 GTI does look seriously mean!  

I've just come back from changing my summer wheels and tires for the winter set on the Mk6.
I don't drive this in the snow if I can help it, that's what the 4x4 is for but you can get caught out real fast in Austria.



A friend of mine runs his own tire depot so he changed the wheels including balancing the winter set. Then he stores the summer ones till next year and only charges me £30 plus the cost of a good Viennese coffee.

Now that's seriously fair!

I had a good few weeks searching within 50-60 miles of home and ended up buying this 2 miles away, went to look at a couple of claimed "exceptional condition" which turned out to be pups,  one even had a creased front wheel arch and crushed cill!!

Another i got there early and the guy tried starting it up (not before a quick glance up and down the street) it turned over for about 20 seconds before spluttering into life

Really is a minefield buying used
