Mk1 octavia vrs

I picked up this (seemingly) mint little number with just 74k on the clock for just £1800

Low ownership car with full history. I mainly got it to tow my track bike and I've never owned a petrol turbo before so within a couple of days of ownership bolted a tow bar in and departed for brands hatch

where I quickly managed to smash the bike up

So rather than fix the bike decided to tweak to car instead but on a budget so £500 later a full Magnex turbo back system and ths fmic

Twinned up with a ramair filter, forge 007p recirculation valve and an already mapped ecu with Rtech stage 2 map with immobiliser delete, anti lag and launch control its now running around 250bhp but with quiet a subtle noise about it

Now Octavias are not beautiful inside or out so set about some subtle improvements outside

First was addition of wind deflectors (which I seem to fit to everything with a roof) and some satin vinyl to the B-pillars to tie the windows in a bit

Similar story with the nasty chrome grille surround and a bit of flyeye over the lights

Thats about as far as plans go aesthetically outside. If anyone knows what a VRS is like inside will know they have very impractical colour schemes so I set about using a canvas sofa dye to change the seat centres and doorcards from almost white grey to black

Also removed the original offensively stained carpet for a Mk4 Golf black number

Its not been without issues though, it appeared the previous owner only cared about stamps in the book (which to my mind count for nothing) and polishing it (except the spoiler which was pink) and not about actually mechanical maintenance

Since beginning of ownership its needed 2 new door locks, a droning wheel bearing meant I decided to remove the front steering knuckles so a garage could fit the bearings. I discovered very tired wishbone bushes so I fitted Audi TT solid ones.
The drop links had split bushes and both inner track rods were seized.

One of the CV joints got upset when I attempted to remove a wishbone so this also needed replacement.

After all this I was greeted by a nasty grinding from the new CV joint, turns out the new hubs I fitted with abs rings had some loose and taken the abs sensor with it

So finally it all seems sorted apart from a new blow in the exhaust system possibly at the tubo end of things but all in all a very quick car for reasonably little cost, might even keep it.
