Boot Light

Can anybody advise how the boot light operates on a 1998/99?
Is there an activating switch or is it from the tail lights again like the Mk1

Have you tried it with your lights on? The boot light operates when they are. 

Quick search online and there's a micro switch on boot lock, seems a common problem along with all the other electrical gremlins later VWs seem to suffer…
