B3 Passat Wagon Daily!

Ive been looking around at getting back into a VW diesel for sometime now

my old daily was a Seat Ibiza Bocanegra 180ps as was rapid, and altho i loved this car it was a liability. expensive and liked to drink oil like it was tap water (£19ltr tap water) and the 2nd engine was going the same way

so after looking around at various mk2 GTD, Diesel etc i figured out the world of watercooled VWs is going through the roof price wise at the minute,

but there is a dark horse in  the VW world that is still reasonable money

the B3 Passat is mostly still sub 1k, not everyone's cuppa tea but it's huge inside, seriously plush interior with my favorite SB turbo diesel engine



so thats about it, im back in the oldschool world of vw motoring

plans are just a slow tart up and refine when needed but it's here to do a purpose and will stay that way

the first job was to look at the tunes as the guy said they were intermittent and bad

new speakers improved as the orginal VW ones has ripped and crumbled

but the reason things were intermitent was the awful wiring job



and had to make a conversion ring to fit the new speakers as VW made 160mm whereas you can only readily buy 165mm

Nice car Mat, looks like a GL.

We had one in met blue for our first ten years of living in Austria.
One owner with 40K miles on it and we added almost another 100k!

Drove it to England and back five times only stopping for diesel and a quick bit to eat.
Only item that had to be replaced was a brake master cylinder.
It did 70k on the original tyres which is insane.
Sold with a set of cheap new ones and it still had the original exhaust.

Flew through each and every MOT, sold it to a Farmer ten years ago and only back in the spring I saw the guys son driving it.

As a complete packet the best car I've ever owned and I've had a few!

Some nice wheels and a bit of light mods and it'll be a lovely load lugger. Nice choice

with a week of daily driving done i gotta say it's good fun and almost as good as a van

picked up 6 6ft x 4ft fence panels that fitted in the boot

haha

Here is the shot from yesterday after realising the water pump bearing was on its last legs.

Water pumps on normal mk1 and mk2 cars a pritty easy but diesel are a nightmare, pump off,cambelt etc

Now that car is begging for air suspension 👍

I couldn't get a 6x6 panel in my t5 😳

Only 6ft x 4ft but still good enough

Easy to swap engine to 1.9 sdi without turbo.
