audi 80 GLE

just got this off ebay, has been in a barn for 20 years.

 

That is so cool and retro   .. was looking at 90 quattro's today.  Hope you get her back to glory with your twists on it

not planning to change the look as i like it a bit ratty, just getting it legal and safe to drive about and enjoy it, only cost me £275 so trying to limit what i spend on it.

it will need work underneath and some welding on the arches, roof and c pillars but will leave the paint as it is, patch the repairs. trying to keep everything as original as i can.

i have got lots of old mk1 parts to try and revive the 1600 engine, its 110 bhp YZ engine with a really cool baffled alloy sump as they didnt have oil coolers

not been started since 1996 so first job was swap the old water pump as was covered in crusty coolant and had split a hose, also i need to fit my spare fuel pump and see if it runs, the injectors look like they may have rusted and cracked the seats so will check them before spending anything on the engine as it could need head removing. it turns over on the key, selects all gears, clutch seems to work, and most lights work    

there is a bit of a dent in the door to pull out but overall its much better than i expected and looks like it should run without having to replace much.

love that! I had a B4 80 that I did plenty too and I loved it… Only got rid of it as my daily commute went from 6 miles a day to 40… still should have kept it!

thanks had a go at starting it the other day but no joy, it would fire up but die immediately  

 Its got an old series 1 style fusebox with the bullet fuses, but has had another fuel pump relay added but it runs all the time, it looks like the old fuel pump relay is still in place too

Just a smidge of rust then! I vote straight pipes, will soon sort the rust issue and give it a meaty sound to match the ratty paint!
