What engine to go for?

Hi guys, brought my first ever mk1 caddy project today! i can't wait to get it here and get started on the build! the shell is solid, rust free! but the one question that's on my mind is what engine should i put in it? any recommendations? it's got mk4 engine mounts in..

i am very new to the VW scene and i know i've got a lot to learn! i'm hoping you guys and girls will help me along the way!

i will upload photos and progress of it when it arrives on Saturday!

There is many literature about this subject, but at the end it depends in what you are after……
I am in the middle of a ARL diesel engine conversion were I will get a very powerful car were I  plan to use it a lot as my daily car.
