Smudger's 20vt Project A.K.A Patsy. (Update 07/06/2015 Got the love back)

Hi guys,

I've bagged myself a 20v engine and complete set-up (loom, gearbox etc etc) and have become a paid member all in one weekend   8)

I'm now on the look out for a decent GTI shell so I can get the conversion done over the winter ready for next year.

Also gotta say thanks to JonP on here who has allowed me to use his garage and tools and is also lending his extensive knowledge to get the conversion done.

Once I get a decent shell and it's all underway I'll stick a progress thread up.

Did you get the conversion from the guy breaking cabby in isle of white, if so looked like a great set up :-)

look forward to seeing build thread buddy and good luck with your shell search. i know someone who has a nice GTI for sale for not silly money that you could strip engine out of and put your conversion in, let me know if you interested and i'll check he still wants to sell it, or you looking for shell and want to start from scratch really ?

A complete runner would be the most suitable.reduces some of the niggles in the swap over.

Yes mate have bagged the conversion from the Isle of White.

Re your mate with the GTI yes I could be interested. I am after a really solid decent car preferably a runner as Jon says but will consider most things for the right money.

Let me know what he wants for it mate.

Its a combo that I have often thougt about.

Mrs Choc run's a 20v T in a mk4 estate with a K03s Turbo and a CC re-map and it goes pretty well when taking the kids to school.  :wink:

yeah but you work in a bunker with a canteen on the third floor  :mrgreen:

So the 20v engine has finally landed. Big thanks to JonP for getting it unloaded. Needs a good clean but nothing a pressure washer and a good clean won't sort.  

Off to see a MK1 today ooop North so some movement at last……………

who ever tied the seat belt to the engine to lift it was very lucky! on unwrapping the pallet, the seatbelt came away in my hands from the top of the engine!

I was glad I used my own chain to lift it out with.

Well after a 250 mile round trip still no MK1. One I saw today had a fair few things that needed putting right and the asking price was still 3.5k.

The search goes on………………………

Well I finally found a decent MK1 albeit not a GTI but a C.

It's now in JonP's garage waiting for the engine to come out and the engine mount to be moved. The assault on the wallet is underway.
