Project dylan, sold.......

right i got back from crazyquiff's house late last night with my new (and very straight!) donar shell for my mk1 cabby, the plan that seems to be coming together is to tidy up the small patches of surface rust and fit a bodykit of some sorts. heres a few pics that i took this afternoon after i had washed all the road salt off it!!!!

looks like a good project, personally not a fan of those Reiger wide kits myself, couldnt you go to the other extreme and do small chrome bumpers and wide split rims? maybe a 70s colour? never seen a cabby done like that anywhere!

Whoa, ?1605 for the bodykit!!! Or have you found somewhere cheaper, like a secondhand kit?

ye i did think about the retro look, with the small chrome bumpers and wide split rims, but the bumpers are so damn expensive these days!!!!.
ye i have found that wide bodykit second hand but its never been fitted and the blokes just had it in his garage for years!!!! but its still expensive though!!! might just put a tidy clipper kit on it and just keep it simple!!

I been busy today with a brush, a tin of TFR (traffic film remover) and a steam cleaner. i started under the drivers wheel arch

then in the engine bay


and then over to the passenger side wheel arch

i have to admit that it took me a good hour and a half hours to get all the crap off inside the wheel arches and about 2 hours under the bonnet but it lwks great now!!!
next move: start removing wire clips, brackets, battery tray, box in the chassis legs. basically smooth under the bonnet, A bit like X5PEA on his project 504.

im not copying you X5 but i like the idea!!!

There is a kit o ebay at the moment with a wide arch kit and a 16 v engine in it aready to be sprayed, i did toy with the idea of this or one of the wide arch kits that you were talking of, but i just cant bring myself to do it to a classic, let us know how it goes mate.

Go for it with the reiger kit, too many people are afraid to deviate from the

love that colour not a fan of any body kits on VW's they just dont look right………but thats just me

that colour finish's in an hour so i will let you know if its goin on or not!!!
i like my bodykits (boy racer at heart!!) but the cabby i got now is modified and i might make the new shell look the same just to a show condition!!! what do you think?

hey mate going to be honest, looks chavved up! put the reiger kit on and spray it a unique colour, something that hasnt been done before, that orange is well overdone in the ford scene, a nice dark goldish colour would look mint with the wide kit on there!

recent update!!!!! its been a while!! the bodykit has been bought and ive got most of a clipper kit for sale apart from the wheel arches if anyone's interested?!?!? anyway back to the car! ive gone for the same bodykit as whats on my car now but ive managed to get some new skirts and 4 new wheel arches (had to buy a complete clipper kit to get them though!!!!) im guna keep the same bumpers too. colour scheme is still being thought about, at the moment its black mohair roof, tango orange bodywork and mica black alloy wheels but im sure its guna change soon!! power hood kit has arrived today too, ordered the basecoat paint aswell tonight from hugspaint  http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Nu-Agane-Carpaints this blokes really helpfull and knows his stuff!!. oh and also im halfway through makin a trailer to mount the shell onto so i can move it from home to my work so i can make some progress on the weekends, it bolts onto the front wishbone mounts and the rear axle mounts, if all goes to plan, the shell will be on the trailer tomorrow morning and back in work so i can start to put the new skirts on and fit the wheel arches. is it worth blending the arches into the body or shall i just leave them?!?!? dont know what to do!!!!
i will report back tomorrow night and let you know how i got on.

good to know you havnt forgotton about us blend the arch's into the wings, i dont know the best way to do this as im no expert at body work  but make sure they do it properly as if they use just filler then its going to dip  after a little while, good luck mate!

i could never forget about you guys!!!! ive finaly got the shell mounted onto the trailer today, had to get a mini digger to lift the front up as i rolled the trailer under it!!!  got a few pics just to show how ive done it, its mounted onto the front wishbone mounts and bolted to the rear axle mounts, its high enough to be able to work on it too without having to remove it from the trailer too!!! ive had it on the ramp today and ive spent most of it getting soaked!!!! ivs steam cleaned all the underneath the floorpan and boot floor and its cum up spotless!!!! heres some pics for ya.

i used this diagram to work out chassis dimentions for the trailer uprights

heres what ive been up to today, removing the battery tray, wire clips, washer bottle brackets and starting repairing the windscreen corner on the passenger side, this is the first layer of filler

(the red paint is to stop it rusting while its outside)

i must admit since the shell's been on the trailer ive started workin on it a bit more and ive got more enthusiasm to work on it!!!!

been spending a bit of time smoothing the scuttle panel off and putting a single wiper hole in the centre, beleave me its harder that you  think!!!! its not quite finnished but its getting there!!



It looks from the picture that the hole isnt quite in the centre but beleve me it is!!!!!!!! its just the angle that i took the picture from!!
