Was it in a stable block that was lined with wood? I ask this because I know of another car (not a vw) that is in a stable block and though its 70 uyears old it has hardly rusted either because the wood absorbs moisture from the air.
Please, please keep this all original! save for say removable stuff like wheels as it is an important early swallowtail model.
Marcus.

I'd keep it as is and clean/refurb everything back to original. Less is more.
It always starts with different wheels and ends up with a 2 litre turbo, 6 inch exhaust pipe, in-da-weeds-suspenion, 4point harness, whale tail spoiier, flipflop paint, roll cage and chrome 21 inch alloys

Most parts missing are easily available, windows winders are easy to get hold of, the seat material can be brought from Germany but is not cheap if you do need to repair the drivers seat?

Shame the door cards have speaker holes in them, maybe some black speakers/covers would make them less noticeable?
Bit a satin black paint on the pedals and handbrake lever and possibly a little extra sound proofing under the plastic carpets but maybe see if you can live with the noise first.
Keep the updates and pictures coming.

There are a few holes in the cills in places but I'd say 80% is solid, drivers rear wheel arch has had some tin spray at sometime, both front wings are 90% solid but where they join the front lower panel is a bit ripe.
Are the st front wings the same as later years, only asking as apparently the bonnet is slightly different at the front so wasn't sure if that altered the shape in any way. Thanks again.
