New 75 swallowtail

Evening all,well I couldn’t wait any longer,even the snow couldn’t stop me when I got going,thought I’d begin with a bit of a clean up inside the car,this car keeps surprising me,all floor plans and rear wheel well are all super solid and with a quick clean look loads better,I took out both front seats as I could get to everything easily,stripped out carpets and rubbers,gave it a hoovering and wipe down,cleaned door panels and dash which was covered in think dust and grime,I haven’t tackled cleaning the seats yet but I reckon they’ll come up ok.

I am staggered by its condition! what a gem.
Was it in a stable block that was lined with wood? I ask this because I know of another car (not a vw) that is in a stable block and though its 70 uyears old it has hardly rusted either because the wood absorbs moisture from the air.
Please, please keep this all original! save for say removable stuff like wheels as it is an important early swallowtail model.

Thankyou,yes not going to change much at all,maybe wheels and suspension but that's it,cannot wait till the weather gets a bit warmer as I'd like to tackle the paintwork,it's far from perfect but interested to see how it turns out.
 

Amazing, looks better than most did by the time they were 10 years old.

I'd keep it as is and clean/refurb everything back to original. Less is more.

It always starts with different wheels and ends up with a 2 litre turbo, 6 inch exhaust pipe, in-da-weeds-suspenion, 4point harness, whale tail spoiier, flipflop paint, roll cage and chrome 21 inch alloys

That looks so solid inside for a car which has been stored for so long in a barn.

Most parts missing are easily available, windows winders are easy to get hold of, the seat material can be brought from Germany but is not cheap if you do need to repair the drivers seat?

Shame the door cards have speaker holes in them, maybe some black speakers/covers would make them less noticeable?

Bit a satin black paint on the pedals and handbrake lever  and possibly a little extra sound proofing under the plastic carpets but maybe see if you can live with the noise first.

Thanks for the material link ,yes I haven't forgot about all the other bits but yesterday wasn't really the day to get stuck in but just small footsteps first.
There are a few holes in the cills in places but I'd say 80% is solid,drivers rear wheel arch has had some tin spray at sometime,both front wings are 90% solid but where they join the front lower panel is a bit ripe.
Are the st front wings the same as later years,only asking as apparently the bonnet is slightly different at the front so wasn't sure if that altered the shape in any way. Thanks again.

Also just to note that,yes the after market sunroof looks hideous but I think we were all quilting of getting one of those in the 80's,wouldn't dream of having one today and wish it wasn't there but can't do much about it now,my point being I put the hose on the roof and at least it doesn't seem to leak which I suppose is a plus

Been busy over the weekend so haven't had any time for the st,but couldn't resist getting some t cut and autoglym on the front door to see if I could get rid of 35 years of grime and dust,don't think it turned out to bad  

That's come up very good for VW red as it's well know for paint fade and turning pink in the sun.
