Finally finished.

After 5 month's at the restorers, my GTI cabby is finally finished, and i'm well chuffed with the results.

It looks fantastic. 

What state was it in when you dropped it off?  Five months sounds expensive!!!

I took it off the road six years ago, due to rust in the fuel tank. I stripped it down before realising that my garage was to small to drop out the rear beam and fuel tank, so it stayed there under a sheet until I had saved enough money to have it completely stripped and rebuilt using new parts. I will never get back what I've spent on it, but that's never why we do these things …..

Have you thought about some spacers for the rear wheels?

Six years…I bet it's great to have it back on the road. That's certainly dedication. 

It looks really good, was it just a cosmetic restoration or mechanical too?

No I haven't thought of spacers for the rear, thought that it looked OK as is. It was mechanical as well as cosmetic, it was stripped to a bare shell and nearly everything was replaced, parts bill was 6.5 K alone.

It was £17 actually   , not to everybody's taste, but it was the look I was going for. I'll probably lose the GTI badge though, the restorer put that on, no point having a badgeless grill if your gonna stick a badge on it !. I've still got the original four lamp grill, if I change my mind.
