The little GTI, 82 mars red mk1

This is my little mk1 gti project that I've had for a few weeks now, started stripping it inside and out to get it down to the bare shell so i can start on repairing the shell to get it ready for paint. I'm planing on keeping it mostly original apart from a few bits like wheels and suspension bits and bobs :Das it was found, had to weld one side of the rear axel on to get it on the trailer and home

as it is now got a few bits off, still loads to go.

had a go at cleaning up the front spliter came up a treat  :) should have taken a before pic :?

It's not bad but i know one of the rear arches needs doing as there's a big dent in it :(  the bottom of the doors have some rust on them the front wings i think are a bit rusty in places (i know ones got a hole in it) and the front panel at the bottom is all rusted and dented. The roof has two nasty holes in it one on the sunroof and one next to it, thinking of getting a new roof without a sunroof for it and the tail gate has a nice hole in it lol. Most of the bad bits are hidden underneath around the edges of it.

Did some more work to it over the weekend, got the headlining out, the dash and removed most of what was left of the engine.
Also discovered that the sunroof still works  8O  thought it would have siezed up

next jobs to remove all the wiring loom

just a few wires and tubes and the brake servo to go now  :)

I've been repairing the part where the front left wishbone is bolted to the car, it had rotted through the floor and through the chassis leg. I've made 3 pannels, one for the floor then one to go over that which is the chassis leg and then the dome sort of part at the end of the chassis leg that gives it its strength. Also repaird the side of the floor and inner sill as there was big hole there and painted the front half of the floor with hammerite anti rust primer. Going to clean the rust off the boot floor next as thats quite bad and repiar any holes that I find.

2 of the pannels that I've made, the one on the right is the left overs of the old one that i used to make the new one.

Floor repair being held in place with a magnetic arrow ready for welding.

Welded on

Next part welded on

And the last part on, have ground back the welds now

Few pics of the repairs to the inner sill and floor
