So after pretty much getting to where I want to get with my Tfsi mk1 cabriolet I've decided to find myself a mk1 swallowtail to get to grips with.
I found it over in Sweden about a month ago and received it yesterday. It's a little bit rougher than I was expecting, but I hope to get it all sorted over a few years, so don't expect a quick fix as the Mrs had put me on a car buying ban for the next couple of years
The car is a July 75 1.5 LS in marinogelb with green interior
I really think that the green and yellow go together and I think that the colour combo sold the car to me.
I'm going to try and start to strip it next week to see how far the rot has got !! I had a quick look under the carpets this afternoon and the floor and sound deadening is wet, although when i poked the floor it felt pretty strong still and wa fortunate that my finger didn't go through it.
The car itself has done 177,000 Km and has had a few bits of input done to it over the years, hence to 6x9 cut outs and the yellow fogs. Strange thing is that it has some sort of electrical extension in the passenger footwell with a power lead and plug rolled up behind the front light ?
I'll let the pictures do the rest of the talking but as you can see i'm in need of a few panels and repairs, and if anyone has a spare green swallowtail interior knocking about there house then that wouldn't go amiss
Adam.

Good luck with it!
The extra electrics sound like they might be for an engine heater or interior heater of some description. Its law in some parts of Scandinavia that you cannot leave a car idling for more than 5 minutes and with the cold mornings they get, a lot of people plug them into the mains over night.

Where in Sweden did it come from? I've done quite as bit of work there over the years. It might have been under my nose?!

I love the colour, you really have taken on quite a lot of work!
I'll look forwards to seeing the progress. It'll be amazing when it's done.
As it's from Sweden, did it come with a set of studded winter tires?

It didn't Mike. Just came in a set of winters that aren't studded.

I also started to strip the interior a bit to see what i'm working with. So far it doesn't look too bad

The passenger rear arch has had a previous repair done to it, but the outer tub seems solid with a couple of small holes to the inner tub. The drivers side outer tub is starting to go and the inner seems solid on that side.
I managed to take a look inside the drivers door and found that the lower is starting to rot.
Heres the photos

Nice find!
Always fancied a yellow swallowtail to restore
From those pics it looks that the bodywork will keep you busy for a while

So today the strip down happened to see how bad the car actually is.
The main part of the rot is on the lower A pillar section and drivers side inner wing. I'm determined to get it sorted and haven't let it get me down. On the plus side, the floor is in good condition and pretty solid

Envirostrip are dipping it for me and is £895 without any primer. It costs £300 - £500 depending on what primer you want on it thought.
Irvs wants it left as is so he can sort any remaining bits of rust if there is any and then he will primer it himself.
