Looks good, my black GTI is in the paint shop at the moment (where it's been for 6 mths!) so will be following this with interest.

Cheers guys,
The plan is a straightforward restoration back to close to original.
I say close to original because it depends on what parts I can find ,, e.g. I have found a pair of black leather front seats, and I am aware these cars have poor brakes so I would like to upgrade the brakes during the build, what's the preferred option regarding brake upgrades these days on a mk1??

Welcome along, looks good so far
As for the brakes, TBH if you're going stock I'd go with stock brakes all round. The usual is to add a larger MC and power assist thingy-me-bob (I hate it when my brain stops working halfway through a sentence), from a mk2.
Ahh got it Servo, that's the thing. a 9 inch one and a 22mm MC. (phew got there in the end!)
After that some braided flexi's help the pedal feel. Other than that with good pads and all set up properly there's nothing wrong with the VW11 calipers and drums on the rear.
Keep us updated
