I'd put heat tape on the tank itself lad in roughly the same shape as the old shield :)

or if you can find a big bit of thin aluminium you could hammer the shield flat and draw round it?

Hello my name is John and I'm a dub addict.

Good idea about the heat tape, John, think I might have some at work somewhere

No updates at the minute Alfie. I'm off down to the painters next Saturday to see what the crack is

In the meantime I've been refurbing bits and bobs like starter motor, rocker cover etc, also bought an 02J gearbox thats needs a good clean and paint, so I'll be doing that shortly.

Small update(no pics I'm afraid).

Just took 20VT engine over to a machine shop that was recommended to me so the guys could have a look at it for me.

 Engine work to be done:

Polish the crankshaft(few light scores in it)
Re-bore the block
New over sized pistons and rings
New big ends
New little ends
Hot wash the block
Hot wash the cylinder head
Cylinder head skimmed
Valves lapped in
New valve stem oils seals
Shimmed
New head bolts
Check oil pump is working
Full rebuild

Pretty much not doing anything myself  :$

Picking it up a week on Tuesday

if your doing that much to the engine then i would put in a new oil pump to be on the safe side

Old dubs never die, they just get lower

Sorry no pics today O_oForgot my camera and my phone was dead lol, tbh there wasn't much to report anyway. The engine bay has been prepped for primer and the front panel has been prepped as well, no paint though. I'm going back down in a couple of weeks. Jon the painter has been busy with other cars that were there before mine but says he'll have more done next time I go down. He's working on 5 other mk1's and a mk2 as well as other cars coming in for minor repairs.

I have moved the goal posts on the build as there is no way it'll be done for this summer, takes the pressure off as well.

The name of the bodyshop is Jh Pro Paint

Shame it's slipping a bit but as you say Andy, it is a relief to have the pressure off a little. It's more important it's done right

Painting always seems to through a spanner in the works with schedules  :'(

Engine work sounds exciting though. Do you mind me asking how much it cost and where it's getting done?  Think my engine is heading the same way
