or if you can find a big bit of thin aluminium you could hammer the shield flat and draw round it?

I'd put heat tape on the tank itself lad in roughly the same shape as the old shield

Good idea about the heat tape, John, think I might have some at work somewhere

In the meantime I've been refurbing bits and bobs like starter motor, rocker cover etc, also bought an 02J gearbox thats needs a good clean and paint, so I'll be doing that shortly.

Just took 20VT engine over to a machine shop that was recommended to me so the guys could have a look at it for me.
Engine work to be done:
Polish the crankshaft(few light scores in it)
Re-bore the block
New over sized pistons and rings
New big ends
New little ends
Hot wash the block
Hot wash the cylinder head
Cylinder head skimmed
Valves lapped in
New valve stem oils seals
Shimmed
New head bolts
Check oil pump is working
Full rebuild
Pretty much not doing anything myself
Picking it up a week on Tuesday

Engine work sounds exciting though. Do you mind me asking how much it cost and where it's getting done? Think my engine is heading the same way
